ICSC Plays host to Gators
ICSC was happy to welcome students from the University of Florida’s David Miller Center for Retailing Education and Research at our Manhattan headquarters on Tuesday, March 4. The students, on an annual NYC study tour, have an action-packed week in the Big Apple, meeting with retailers and other businesses, enjoying field trips and site visits….and having a bit of fun along the way!

Sarah Malcolm, Director of Social Media at ICSC, presented a program on Trends in Social Media. She was assisted by her associate Jennifer Giraldo, also of the Social Media Department. The content of the presentation was drawn from Malcolm’s paper, "Effective Tweeting—How You Can Get More Followers," which appeared in the recent ICSC book Digital Media, Mobile Apps & Social Networking, edited by William R. Wilburn.  Ms. Malcolm complemented the seminar with analyses of numerous current social media campaigns and developments by companies including Coca-Cola, McDonald's, and GoPro.  There was even a discussion about last Sunday’s telecast of the Oscars, where host Ellen DeGeneres masterfully deployed social media tactics to promote the show, its sponsors, movie stars, and more.

Special thanks go to Betsy Trobaugh, the JC Penny Director of the Miller Center, who coordinated the trip. We thank the following students who participated, all of whom are now ICSC student members: Victoria Hernandez, Katharine Ferdman, Chin Chin Hao, Callie Wilson, Kristel Garnier, Amber Doughty, Angelica Pappas, Amanda Tankel, Jenna-Leigh Hoffman, Brittani Worden, ShuYun Xue, and Anna Gerrol.

Enjoy some moments of their visit in the video below.
