Congrats UT-Dallas Students! Texas Case Study Winners

Congratulations go to University of Texas-Dallas students Tryna Hammond, Douglas Hermann, Stephanie Jacobs, and Karmen Lau who won the student retail real estate case competition, part of the 2013 ICSC Texas Conference. The students will share a $4,000 cash prize, awarded by the Texas Platinum Sponsors. The second place team, winning $2,000, represented Texas Christian University: Robert Taylor Baker, David Belpedio, Jarrod McCabe, and Matthew Thomas Harrison. Also participating were Ying Zhi Low, Jason Long, Andy Hechavarria, and Daniel Morales, from the University of North Texas.

Senior Doug Hermann, of the winning team, explained, "The competition and conference were both outstanding! Our professors do a great job of teaching us the theory and helping us be knowledgeable, this competition helped me learn much more about how the real world works. Thanks to this competition, I’ll never look at shopping centers or retail the same again. This has been one of the biggest highlights of my undergraduate career."

Stephanie Jacobs, also from the UT-D team, added, "I most enjoyed learning to think outside the box—and all of the networking we were able to do before and after the competition. We met a lot of people attending the conference and received great positive feedback. This was an amazing experience I’ll never forget."

Jace Hinderland, a recent grad of Southern Methodist University, in Dallas, spearheaded the effort to organize the competition. Special thanks go to Jace and his organizing group and judges including:
