Matthew Kabak is pursuing an MSRE at the Burnham-Moores Real Estate Center at the University of San Diego, a University Partner School. With over a decade of experience, he represented entrepreneurs, investors, businesses, and property owners on complex transactions, leases, entity formations, risk management solutions, and related disputes. Kabak gained professional training and hands-on experience in both law firm and corporate environments, which prepared him to launch, grow, and manage his own firm. He developed an interest in real estate while advising brokers, investors, and commercial landlords. His real estate experience includes forming LLCs for residential property portfolios, advising developers on mixed use and local ordinances, closing commercial property sale and purchase transactions, resolving ownership disputes, obtaining court judgments in favor of landlords, and successfully defending a real estate broker in a breach of contract claim. He became active in multiple local industry associations, and obtained his California Real Estate Broker’s license in 2010. He earned his Juris Doctor from Tulane University, and his Bachelor of Arts from Whitman College.
Kabak recently attended his first ICSC Meeting, the Western Division Conference in San Diego, where he participated in the student mentoring program. He says, "The ICSC conference was excellent. In particular the mentoring I received from experienced professionals was very helpful. It was valuable to receive a perspective on the industry and establish a relationship one-on-one with practitioners. Additionally, I learned about additional ICSC certifications which could assist me, from Rhonda Payne, Vice President, Education & Certification. After the meeting, ICSC staff facilitated some great informational interviews with industry leaders, to help me think about combining my legal training with my future career goals in real estate."
